We are seeking an enthusiastic Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer to support our engineering team. This role will focus on analyzing parts, components, and sub-assemblies, as well as assisting in their implementation into production. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, hands-on, with demonstration of project ownership, meeting timelines and working with in a cross-functional collaboration. This role is based onsite at our LaVergne TN headquarters and will work in office Monday-Friday.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Support product changes through specification investigation and 3D modeling, print and Design validation and Design of manufacturing (DFM) reviews.
Work with mechanical engineering team to carryout engineering evaluations and calculations to support design efforts.
Support of the building, testing, and communicating results of prototype builds.
Involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of Coats-designed products.
Support value engineering and quality engineering projects through part build and manufacturing
Support manufacturing engineering in the design, development, and implementation of fixturing for various manufacturing processes.
Work with mechanical, test, manufacturing engineers, and the Supply chain to maintain design transitions from development to production, addressing manufacturability, cost, and performance requirements
Maintain positive and effective working relationships with all team members.
Collaborate with lead engineers and project managers to ensure project tollgates and deliverables are met
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
1-3 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience in direct work experience or CO-OP, internship, or university projects.
Formal training or experience in applying ASME Y14.5 GD&T preferred.
Knowledge of various manufacturing processes including milling, turning, metal forming, and welding preferred.
Experience with hands-on product testing, instrumentation, data collection, and reporting required. Experience with designing and setting up test fixtures is a plus
Familiarity with DFMEA / PFMEA / DFA / DFM preferred.
Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic power systems preferred.
Basic electrical knowledge preferred
Experience with 3D printing and other rapid prototyping processes preferred.
Hands-on problem solver.
