The Coats Company is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Buyer II to join our procurement team. This role is responsible for purchasing and planning the materials that keep our operations running, and for helping source and select new suppliers. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, sharp negotiation ability, and hands-on vendor management experience to drive cost-effective procurement without compromising on quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Procure direct materials based on MRP requirements across departments, ensuring timely availability and adequate inventory levels.
  • Assist with developing and implementing procurement strategies that optimize cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Identify potential suppliers, conduct supplier evaluations, and participate in contract negotiations to secure cost savings and favorable terms.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand their requirements and provide procurement guidance.
  • Maintain relationships with existing suppliers, monitor vendor performance, and resolve issues promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements throughout the procurement process.
  • Use procurement tools and systems to track purchases, manage budgets, and report on procurement activity.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams and initiatives supporting broader organizational goals.
  • Stay current on best practices in procurement and supply chain management to continuously improve processes.
What You Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred, but not required.
  • 3+ years of proven experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain management.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to build effective supplier relationships.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with procurement software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across internal and external teams.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize, and manage multiple projects at once.
  • Working knowledge of procurement best practices, contract management, and relevant regulations.
  • Solid business acumen and understanding of market dynamics and supplier landscapes.
  • CPIM or CRIM certification a plus.
