Assembly Supervisor
We are seeking a seasoned Assembly Supervisor with 7–10 years of direct manufacturing leadership experience, ideally within a unionized environment. This role requires a hands-on leader who understands how to drive results while working within the structure of a collective bargaining agreement. The ideal candidate is skilled at managing day-to-day assembly operations, solving problems on the floor in real time, and maintaining a strong, consistent presence with their team.
Scope of the Role:
The Assembly Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities within the assembly line. This role is critical in ensuring production targets are achieved by effectively planning, coordinating, and executing assembly operations. The supervisor is expected to provide leadership and support for real-time problem solving on the assembly line, addressing issues as they arise to minimize downtime and maintain workflow continuity. Additional responsibilities include:
- Managing vacation schedules
- Tracking time and attendance
- Monitoring associate performance
- Updating the daily management board (SQDIP)
- Maintaining a clean and organized assembly area in adherence to 5S principles
This role works closely with engineering, maintenance, and quality teams to drive process improvements and acts as a change agent on the line. The supervisor also manages inventory for assembly tools, fixtures, and standard work instructions, while ensuring compliance with all relevant safety and quality regulations, including OSHA. A strong focus on team performance, production goals, and compliance, and results is essential.
Essential Functions:
- Supervise day-to-day operations of the assembly department across two shifts.
- Ensure production schedules are met through effective planning and execution.
- Lead and support problem-solving efforts to address assembly line issues in real time.
- Handle administrative tasks such as vacation scheduling, time and attendance, associate performance tracking, and SQDIP board updates.
- Maintain a clean and organized assembly area using 5S principles.
- Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and quality departments to optimize processes.
- Manage inventory of assembly tools, fixtures, and standard work instructions.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and quality regulations, including OSHA standards.
- Foster a positive and collaborative team environment focused on results.
- Drive continuous improvement and lean initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
- BS Degree in Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience preferred
- 7–10 years of supervisory experience in an assembly or manufacturing environment required
- Expertise in lean manufacturing, standard work, and continuous improvement required
- Familiarity with mechanical assembly, engineering drawings, and basic electrical/pneumatic systems a plus
- Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to develop and motivate teams
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; ERP/MRP systems experience (e.g., AS400/SAP S-4 Hana) a plus
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, across all levels of the organization
